چکیده

555 Abstract: The importance of bone marrow biopsy in Hodgkin’s disease is well known. The incidence of bone marrow involvement in Hodgkin’s disease varies from 2% to 29%. The presence of myelofibrosis is not sufficent evidence for a definitive diagnosis of bone marrow involvement. Patients having myelofibrosis as a first symptom without peripheral lympadenopathy must be distinguished from patients with idiopathic myelofibrosis. In this study, we examined the frequency of bone marrow involvement and the degree of myelofibrosis in Hodgkin’s disease. We found the incidence of bone marrow involvement to be 5.26%, and that of myelofibrosis to be 31.6%. The high incidence of myelofibrosis in Hodgkin’s disease suggests that Hodgkin’s disease must be investigated for early diagnosis and therapy in the case of idiopathic myelofibrosis.

Bone marrow involvement in Hodgkin's disease: pathology and response to MOPP chemotherapy.

Examination of the bone marrow biopsies of 174 patients with Hodgkin’s disease seen at the National Cancer Institute between 1965 and 1972 revealed tumor involvement of the marrow in 19 cases. Eighteen of the 19 patients were treated with intensive combination chemotherapy (MOPP), and 13 achieved complete remission; the median duration of remission was 25+ mo, and 49% of those at risk remained ...

Bone marrow fibrosis as a feature of systemic lupus erythematosus: a case report and literature review

INTRODUCTION Peripheral cytopenias are common in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), but bone marrow involvement is rarely reported. Myelofibrosis is a rare disorder characterized by reticulin fibrosis of the bone marrow, which usually occurs in response to clonal proliferation of hematopoietic stem cells in myeloproliferative disorders. However, bone marrow fibrosis has also been described in ...

Bicytopenia Secondary to Autoimmune Myelofibrosis as the First Presentation of an Undiagnosed Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: A Rare Case Report

Autoimmune myelofibrosis (AIMF) is considered as an infrequent cause of bone marrow fibrosis (BMF) and a rare complication of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Due to its rarity, it is mistakenly diagnosed as primary myelofibrosis (MF). We describe the clinicopathologic features of a secondary form of AIMF in a 33- year- old female patient with an undiagnosed SLE which presented with acute b...

Arthritis due to synovial involvement by extramedullary haematopoiesis in myelofibrosis with myeloid metaplasia.

A 60-year-old man presented with polyarthralgias, a psoriasiform rash, and severe elbow pain. Peripheral blood smear and bone marrow biopsy established a diagnosis of myelofibrosis with myeloid metaplasia. Biopsy of the skin lesions revealed a nonspecific dermatitis. The clinical presentation was inconsistent with psoriatic arthritis, and there was no evidence for associated gout or collagen-va...
